Beatrice Yorker, JD, RN, MS

Beatrice Yorker, JD, RN, MS, is a Professor Emerita of Nursing, Criminal Justice and Criminalistics at California State University, Los Angeles. She has a master's degree in child and adolescent psychiatric nursing and a law degree. She has published and presented on Munchausen by Proxy and Factitious Disorders for the past thirty years and served on the American Professional Society for the Abuse of Children (APSAC) Munchausen by Proxy Committee, who published interdisciplinary Guidelines for practice in 2017. Beatrice has taught graduate and undergraduate psychiatric mental health nursing students in addition to her academic administrative roles as Dean of the College of Health and Human Services at California State University, Los Angeles, Director of the School of Nursing at San Francisco State University, and Department Chair of Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing at Georgia State University. She serves on the Board of Munchausen Support, a foundation dedicated to supporting victims, perpetrators, and clinicians reaching out for guidance and education regarding factitious disorders.  She has been featured on national news and documentaries following the release of Gypsy Blanchard, a victim of Munchausen by Proxy who was imprisoned for killing her mother. Currently, she is facilitating support groups for survivors and non-offending family members who are trying to protect family members from this type of abuse.
